Vital Sports Medicine

Vital First Aid now has a sports training division called Vital Sports Medicine which is dedicated to the development and delivery of leading sports trainer education. Our courses range from CPR to FULL Certificate III in Sports Trainer as well as Level 3 Sports Trainer. Our courses are designed to ensure that sports trainers gain the skills needed to assist injured players whilst maintaining the overall health and safety of all those at the game.


Vital Sports Medicine has been chosen by the NRL to deliver all of the re-accreditation courses as well as the highly sort after Level 2 courses nationally.

Level 3 Sports Trainer course - FIRST IN AUSTRALIA TO DELIVER THIS COURSE

Vital Sports Medicine is leading the Sports Trainer industry by being the first in Australia to deliver the Level 3 Sports Trainer course. This course greatly builds on the skills of the Level 2 Sports Trainer whilst ensuring that these additional skills can also be used outside of the sporting industry.


The course includes several units of competency as well as extensive use of scenarios to ensure the highest level of knowledge and skills are achieved. Units of competency issued include:

  1. HLTAID006 Provide Advanced First Aid
  2. HLTAID007 Provide Advanced Resuscitation
  3. HLTAID008 Manage first aid resources and services - Occupational First Aid
  4. PUAEME004A Provide emergency care for suspected spinal injuries
  5. PUAEME005A Provide Pain Management


Level 1 Sports Trainer course

This is a 2 day course design for people with a passion for sport who wish to gain the Level 1 Sports Trainer qualification. This course is recognised by most major sporting organisations.

Prerequisite information: The Level 1 Sports Trainer course includes several Nationally Recognised units of competency. These include:

  1. HLTAID003 Provide First Aid
  2. SISSSPT201A Implement sports injury prevention
  3. SISSSPT302A Provide initial management of sports injuries
  4.  SISSSPT305A Support Sports Injury Management
  5. SISSSPT306A Deal with medical conditions in a sport setting
  6. SISSSPT304A Tape ankle, thumb and fingers

These units are assessed during the face to face component of the course as well as by the participant completing a post course portfolio of research and evidence of completing certain tasks. This post course portfolio will require the participant to have access to a computer with internet and email facilities and for them to have basic computer skills to use Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF's and insert photos into documents. The participant will also need to have access to either a smart phone or digital camera to take photos and send them electronically. Assistance can be provided if the participant is having difficulties with any stage of the assessment submission. 

Basic numeracy and literacy skills are also required. This means that the participant will need to be able to read and write competently in english. If you are unsure that the participant has these skills please let us know prior to completing enrolment.

Level 2 Sports Trainer course

The Level 2 Sports Trainer course includes several Nationally Recognised units of competency. These include:

  1. SISSSPT303A Conduct basic warm-up and cool-down programs
  2. SISXWHS101 Follow work health and safety policies
  3. SISSSCO306  Provide Drugs in Sport Information
  4. SISXRSK301A Undertake risk analysis of activities
  5. SISSSPT307A Conduct advanced taping
  6. HLTAID006 Provide Advanced First Aid
  7. HLTAID007 Provide Advanced Resuscitation

as well as First Aid reminders, concussion policies etc. 

During the course, and as part of the Post Course assessments, you will be required to

  • use "pre-game" check assessments, amend those "checks" and evaluate the effectiveness of them
  • assist with WH&S identification and risk mitigation within your club
  • ensure safe use and maintenance of equipment within your sport
  • conduct warm up and cool down programs
  • research and deliver information on "drugs in sport" to athletes in your club
  • learn advanced taping techniques
  • spinal care refresher
  • concussion awareness and refresher

These units are assessed during the face to face component of the course ( 2 days ) as well as by the participant completing a post course portfolio of research and evidence of completing certain tasks. This post course portfolio will require the participant to have access to a computer with internet and email facilities and for them to have basic computer skills to use Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF's and insert photos into documents. The participant will also need to have access to either a smart phone or digital camera to take photos and send them electronically. Assistance can be provided if the participant is having difficulties with any stage of the assessment submission. This post course work can take several months to complete.

Access to a team or group of sports persons is also critical for completion of these course to enable delivery of certain warm up / cool down programs, drugs in sports education, WH&S related assessment etc.

CERTIFICATE III in Sports Trainer

This Certificate III in Sports Trainer is a great way to consolidate your training into one qualification. The units achieved when completing accredited sports trainer courses often work towards this Certificate 3.
